The Heltec WiFi LoRa 32 V4 module has recently become very popular. And it is easy to see why — it offers solid specifications, while the more powerful LoRa radio section performs especially well in many applications. For those using this module as a Meshtastic node, we now have a ready-made solution: the WiFi LoRa 32 Expansion Kit. It is a complete, rugged enclosure with a touchscreen, built around the WiFi LoRa 32 V4 module.
The enclosure is made of black aluminium, while the rear panel is plastic. A LoRa antenna is included, but an 18650 battery is not. The front panel is a 320 × 240 touchscreen. Meshtastic firmware is already installed on the device, so all you need to do is insert a battery — the rear panel must be unscrewed first.
The whole unit fits comfortably in the hand, and the set also includes a clip that screws onto the back of the enclosure. It allows you to attach the device to a belt, for example.
Although this is a complete, nicely finished device, it has not abandoned its DIY roots. The rear panel features a 2 × 14 female connector with the standard 2.54 mm pitch — ideal for connecting your own expansion board. The pinout is shown below.
